The Effects of Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang(Íþ×­¡àÛÜÚâù¾÷·) and Gamigwaruhaebaekbanhatang(Ê¥Ú«Íþ¡àÛÜÚâù¾÷·) on Ischemic Heart Disease

Abstract
To verify the preventing and curing effects on ischemic heart disease, thrombosis and atherosclerosis by Gwaruhaebaekbanha tang and Gamigwaruhaebaekbanha tang which have been used oriental medicine for the treatment of cardiac pain due to "phelm-retention"and "condensed-cold", recovery of myocardial ischemia in perfused rat heart, (Na^+ K^-) ATPase activity in heart valve of rat, collagen induce thrombotic death in mouse, platelet number in rat, aggregation of platelets from rat, ATP release and MDA(malonaldehyde) production from rat platelets, Vit. D_2 and cholesterol induced atherosclerosis in SHR, serum lipid value in SHR, blod pressure and hematological profiles in SHR and T-dependent antibody response to sheep red blood cells in mouse were experimented.
The results are summarrized as follows
1. Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang and Gamigwaruhaebaekbanhatang effectively recovered heart rate, heart pressure and flow rate after ischemia in perfused rat heart. Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activity in the perfusate after ischemia was significantly decresed in Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang treated group compare to controls. Gamigwaruhaebaekbanhatang showed more protective effects in heart rate, heart pressure and LDH activity than Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang itself.
2. Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang and Gamigwaruhaebaekbanhatang increased Total ATPase activity in heart valve of heart and percentage of ouabain sensitive (Na¢¥ K+)ATPase.
3. Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang and Gamigwa ruhaebaekbanha tang significantly decreased collagen-induced thrombotic death in mouse. Collage-induced aggregation of platelets from rat was suppressed and ATP release and malondialdehyde production from rat platelets were also decreased in Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang and Gamigwaruhaebaekbanha tang treated group.
4. Pathological examination indicated theat Gwaruhaebaekbanha tang and Gamigwaruhaebaekbanhatang reduced atherosclerosis in spontaneous hypersensitive rat. Total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol were decreased to control level and HDL cholesterol level was increased by Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang in experimental atherosclerosis rat. Generally Gamigmaruhaebaekbanhatang showed more protective effect than Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang itself.
5. No significant effects were observed in blood pressure and hematological profiles in spontaneous hypersensitive.rat treated with Gwaruhaebaekbanha tang or Gamigwaruhaebaekbanhatang.
6. Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang or Gamigmaruhaebaekbanhatang significantly increased T-dependent antibody response to sheep red blood cells in mouse, Gamigwaruhaebaekbanhatang showed more protective effect in T-dependent antibody response the Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang itself.
as the results of this experimental study show that Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang and Gamigwaruhaebaekbanhatang has significant effects on ischemic heart disease, thrombosis and artherosclerosis, it may be concluded that the clinical application of Gwaruhaebaekbanhatang and Gamigwaruhaebaekbanhatang treatments for these disease are appropriate.
